Meet the Superintendent - Dr. Lisa Taylor
Dr. Taylor has been an educator for over 20 years and is the first female superintendent of Heyworth School District. She previously served as the Superintendent at Decatur Public Schools after serving as a business teacher, building administrator, and the deputy superintendent for Decatur.
Dr. Taylor is originally from Bement, IL where she graduated second in her class; she earned her bachelor’s degree in Economics at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. She returned to EIU to earn her business teaching degree, master’s degree in Educational Administration, and specialist degree in education. She earned her doctorate in Education Administration from Aurora University in 2019.
Dr. Taylor has earned much recognition for her leadership in education over the years, being named one of the 20 leaders under 40 who make a difference in Central Illinois; receiving the Rising Star Award for outstanding alumni from the College of Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) at Eastern Illinois University; and receiving the the Abe Lincoln Region Superintendent of the Year Award from Illinois Principals Association. She currently serves on the boards for Bloomington Area Career Center and Tri-County Special Education Association. She is also the president of the Corn Belt Region for the Illinois Association of School Administrators.
Dr. Taylor joined Heyworth School District as the jr/sr high school principal in June of 2016 and was quickly promoted to Superintendent. She loves being in Heyworth as it reminds her of her hometown. She is proud of the variety of course and activity offerings provided in a small school district. She believes Heyworth School District stands out among other districts for high academic performance, consistently successful athletic programs, state of the art facilities, and innovative academic and fine arts programs.
Dr. Taylor is married to Richard Taylor, and together they have three children. They are proud parents and soon to be grandparents as her stepson, Skylar is expecting a daughter in July of 2024. Dr. Taylor’s daughter, Madalyn is in her last year of a doctorate program through York University in the United Kingdom while her son, Ethan is starting a master’s program at University of Kent in Canterbury, England in the fall of 2024.
